BDS Malaysia welcomes the directive by the Malaysian government to ban the use of Waze by government employees and its call for members of the public to stop using the application. We fully support this directive which is issued in the interest of preventing our national security and sovereignty from being compromised by Waze, an Israeli-based company, for the benefit of the Zionist apartheid and genocidal regime.
We respectfully remind the Malaysian government that there is another entity over whom similar measures are warranted. That entity is Amazon Web Services (AWS). We refer to the statement issued by us and 22 other NGOs on 6th October 2024.

As stated before, AWS is complicit with Israel in committing the genocide in Gaza through its involvement in the Nimbus project and should not be welcomed, were the government to remain true to the cause of Palestinian liberation. Granting projects to a genocide-supporting entity, such as AWS, here in Malaysia will allow it access to sensitive Malaysian government data and potentially pose a threat to our national security. This defeats the purpose of banning the use of Waze.
We therefore strongly urge the Malaysian government to be consistent in its commendable concerns for our national security and accordingly terminate all links and contracts with AWS. Otherwise, the government will be perceived to be worried about the gnat but ignoring the elephant.
