Today, there are around 6500 political Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Since the beginning of 2017 alone, the Israeli occupation authorities have arrested 1609 Palestinians, including 46 women and 311 children under the age of 18. In 2016, Israel arrested 6440 Palestinians.

Today. Israeli occupation authorities are still forcibly transferring Palestinians in captivity to Israeli jails outside of the occupied territory in breach of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. Palestinian prisoners are deprived of their most basic rights, including through punitive and arbitrary measures, as well as the severe restrictions imposed on their rights to visit and on contacts with their families.

Today Israeli occupation authorities are still not taking responsibility for the lives of Palestinian prisoners and therefore must be warned against adopting punitive measures against hunger strikers and resorting to force-feeding, which is “tantamount to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” according to the UN. More vigorously, Israeli Army Minister Avigdor Liberman called on last week of “letting the prisoners die of starvation”.

Today, three weeks after one thousand seven hundred, Palestinian political prisoners launched one of the largest hunger strikes in the last two decades, hunger strike for “Freedom & Dignity” to end these abuses, as the last and most peaceful resort after exploiting all other options; the Israeli occupying authorities transferred tens of prisoners, to disrupt the communications of the institutions concerned about them. Israeli Prison Authorities has been sending hundreds of prisoners to solitary confinement, stripping them of their clothes, blankets, and personal belongings.

Today, we call on your support and solidarity in condemning the Israeli occupation authorities’ policy of mass arbitrary arrest, which aims to intimidate the civilian population. The oppression of the Palestinian people and the denial of their humanitarian right to self-determination must stop immediately.

And it is on the International Community to hold it accountable for all the oppression and injustice resulting from the ongoing Israeli occupation
I the President of IUSY, Howard Lee is in solidarity with you, #hungry4freedom
