Maybank-Microsoft RM1 Billion Partnership
We refer to the statement by the International Bureau of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) published on August 6th 2025 on Dr Maszlee Malik’s Facebook account. (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CEtzJFov1/) which declares the bureau’s objection to the above venture by Maybank on the grounds of Microsoft’s complicity in the ongoing genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.
BDS Malaysia expresses its unreserved support for the stance adopted by the International Bureau of PKR and appreciates its uncompromising and principled decision in openly voicing out its objection despite being part of the party in the governing coalition.
We strongly urge the Malaysian government to respond to the bureau’s statement by doing the right thing which is to intervene to terminate the above venture by Maybank. The bank after all is a GLC.
Microsoft is just one among the companies named by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine in her report of June 30th 2025 as profiting from genocide. Caterpillar, AWS, Fanuc, Google, BlackRock are also in that list of infamy with whom the Malaysian government has links or contracts.
We reiterate our stance expressed in our statement of July 11th 2025 and call on the Malaysian government to review all its agreements and relations with the corporate entities named above with the view to terminating or suspending them.
