We, the undersigned, congratulate YAB Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. We are very heartened to note that he was a prominent activist for the Palestinian cause when he was a student leader. His strong belief in and solidarity with the Palestinian struggle did not waver throughout his years in and out of government.
Given the above, we sincerely hope that the Malaysian government, under the leadership of YAB Dato Seri Anwar, will further enhance its support for the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and justice.
In this respect, we strongly urge YAB Dato Seri Anwar to:
- Continue Malaysia’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine in their noble struggle for freedom and justice and constant support for any measure towards achieving that objective.
- Enhance Malaysia’s support for the Palestinian people in all areas, including diplomacy, trade and economic relations, cultural and educational ties and humanitarian assistance.
- Continue with the Malaysian government’s policy of non-recognition of the Zionist apartheid state and thus reject any overture towards normalisation with it.
To reiterate, we, the undersigned, are gratified that such a prominent activist for the Palestinian cause, such as Dato Seri Anwar, is now heading the Malaysian government. We dearly hope his leadership will further boost the Malaysian government’s support for the Palestinian people.
