Boycott Puma – Global Day of Action: Spreading Awareness on Puma’s Support for Israeli Apartheid

On June 24th, 2023, BDS Malaysia organized a small gathering at Taman Tasik Cempaka, Bangi, Selangor, in conjunction with the Boycott Puma – Global Day of Action. The event saw the participation of various organizations and members of the public, including the Malaysian Women’s Coalition for al-Quds and Palestine (MWCQP), Viva Palestina Malaysia (VPM), Rose2Rose, IKRAM Muda, Belia Harmoni, Wanita IKRAM, Persatuan Tadika Islam Malaysia (PERTIM), and concerned individuals who joined together to raise awareness about Puma’s involvement in sponsoring the Israel apartheid’s football team.

The gathering aimed to shed light on Puma’s complicity in supporting the Israeli occupation by highlighting the construction of Israeli football fields on stolen Palestinian land. The occupation forces have also been responsible for the tragic deaths of several Palestinian footballers, including Saeedh Odeh (16 years old, May 2021), Mohammad Ghneim (19 years old, April 2022), Thaer Yazouri (16 years old, May 2022), Zaid Ghneim (14 years old, May 2022), Ahmed Atef Daraghmeh (23 years old, December 2022), and the most recent case of Omar Qattin (27 years old). Qattin was tragically killed while defending his neighbors from an attack by illegal Israeli settlers in his village of Turmus Ayya. These settlers have been terrorizing the village with the protection of the Israeli military.

The event at Taman Tasik Cempaka aimed to bring attention to these atrocities and call for action to end Puma’s support for Israeli apartheid. It served as a platform for participants to voice their concerns and demand accountability from Puma. By organizing such gatherings and raising awareness, the hope is to make 2023 the year in which Puma severs ties with Israeli apartheid.

Join us in taking a stand against injustice and supporting the Boycott Puma movement. Together, we can make a difference and bring about positive change.
