We note and welcome the recent statement by McDonald’s Malaysia. However, in light of the severity of the current situation and the deplorable and blatant crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, we urge McDonald’s Malaysia to take a stronger position. Israel’s current policy and actions of bombing civilians and public institutions in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians, including women and children, is open genocide, and attempted ethnic cleansing via forced displacement of civilians, a violation of international law.
It has now become the moral responsibility of anyone with a degree of conscience to exert maximum efforts to stop this Israeli tyranny immediately. One way to do this is to hold to account companies that are actively supporting this aggression in one way or another.
Therefore, we call on McDonald’s Malaysia to distance itself from McDonald’s Israel’s support of Israeli forces and publicly state its support for the Palestinian people. We note also that various McDonald’s franchisees in countries such as Turkiye, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have announced efforts to provide aid to Palestinians. We further call on McDonald’s Malaysia to condemn Israeli genocidal policies.
Failure to do the above will reflect McDonald’s Malaysia’s unconcerned stand as thousands of Palestinians are killed under Israeli bombs and may lead to calls for a boycott of all outlets here in Malaysia.
